Evolve MMA Exclusive: Shinya Aoki Interview

We are now just one week away from ONE FC: Total Domination, the biggest mixed martial arts event in Singapore’s history. In one of the most anticipated fights of the year, the Evolve Fight Team’s Shinya Aoki will make his ONE FC featherweight debut against Cody Stevens. Through this collaboration, Singapore's national athletes will be granted full access to the World Champions at Asia's top martial arts organization, Evolve MMA. Evolve Mixed Martial Arts to Train Future Champions in Various Sporting Events

National Athletes to Benefit Through Martial Arts and Training Regime of World Champions

Singapore, 9 October 2013 – Evolve Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) today announces its collaboration with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to provide a training platform to groom national athletes in all disciplines to become future champions in their respective fields.

Through this first-of-a-kind collaboration, Evolve MMA grants Singapore’s national athletes complete access to all of the World Champions at Asia’s top martial arts organization. Knowledge sharing will include World Champion training methodologies, nutritional regimens, peak performance strategies, mental strength programs, and other beneficial intellectual property.

Officially kicking off in October 2013, the collaboration between Evolve MMA and the SSC will see all current Division 1 and Division 2 athletes from all sports receive unlimited complimentary training at Asia’s top martial arts organization. From Muay Thai, Boxing, MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Wrestling, Submission Grappling, and Strength and Conditioning classes offered at Evolve MMA, each form of martial arts will help the national athletes to unleash their potential by forging confidence, mental strength, discipline, courage, humility, a desire for continuous self-improvement, and an unbreakable warrior spirit. These additional skills add an entirely new dimension to Singapore’s national athletes.

Evolve Competition Team Try Outs Results

Over the weekend, Evolve MMA hosted the try outs for the Evolve Competition Team, the official amateur team for Evolve MMA. As expected, the try outs were very well attended and extremely competitive. All of the students that attended were put through a tough training session during which the Evolve MMA instructors evaluated their skills.

After careful evaluation and discussion among the Evolve instructors, a final list has been compiled of those who have been selected to join the respective competition teams.

Yet, before we announce the list, let us first extend a big congratulations to every student that showed up to the try outs. Although not everyone made the team, every student that had the courage to put his or her skills to the test deserves the utmost respect. We are very proud to have you as part of the Evolve Family. If you did not make the team, do not be discouraged. Be motivated. Many students that were not selected at the first round of try outs earlier this year came back this weekend and made the team. So regardless of whether or not you made the team, continue to push yourself every day in training. We are already looking forward to the next round of try outs!

ONE FC Fight Preview: Eddie Ng vs. Peter Davis

On October 18^th, ONE Fighting Championship will be making its much anticipated return to the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The fight card is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting of the year thus far. In what is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated match ups of the night, the Evolve Fight Team’s Eddie Ng will take on Malaysian MMA superstar Peter Davis. Both of these guys possess some of the biggest fan bases in all of Asian MMA, and their exciting fighting styles ensure that they will bring the entire Singapore Indoor Stadium to its feet when they square off on October 18th.

In anticipation of this awesome fight, ONE FC recently released a fight preview. Gracie Breakdown: Pettis Submits Henderson

This past weekend at UFC 164 Anthony Pettis shocked the MMA world with an amazing 1^st round armbar submission over Benson Henderson. The victory crowned Pettis the new UFC Lightweight Champion and brought the reign of Benson Henderson to a dramatic conclusion. While it is not all that shocking that Pettis beat Henderson, the manner in which he did so is. Pettis is known primarily for his dynamic striking attacks, and Henderson just recently earned his BJJ black belt. If anything, this fight provides a big lesson to all fighters about the effectiveness of BJJ and its ability to end fights from anywhere at anytime.

Countdown to UFC 164: Mir vs. Barnett

UFC 164 is all set to go down this weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The fight card is stacked from top to bottom with electrifying fights, and the co-main event of the evening features two of the most experienced and accomplished heavyweights in the world. They are also both former UFC heavyweight champions. Frank Mir is looking to rebound from two straight losses inside the Octagon and prove that he is still a top contender in the UFC heavyweight division. Josh Barnett will be making his long awaited return to the UFC after an over 10 year absence. Barnett has won 9 of his last 10 bouts outside of the UFC and with a big win over Mir will put himself right back in the mix for title contention. It will be very interesting to see how this one plays out, both standing and on the ground.

The small island nation of Singapore might not be well known within the MMA community, but if EvolveMMA owner Chatri Sityodtong has his way, the former British colony will soon become synonymous with liver kicks and championship belts.

Four years ago, Kru Saknarong lived on a dirt floor in the Team Sityodtong training camp in Pattaya, Thailand. He was earning $300 per month and sharing a living space with his wife and the fighters he trained. He had no net worth.

ONE FC Preview: Kojima vs. Leone

ONE FC Announces Return to Singapore!

ONE FC made the huge announcement this week that they will be returning to Singapore for another world class mixed martial arts event on October 18^th. As we anxiously await the upcoming ONE FC in Jakarta, this comes as a welcome addition to the excitement. It is looking like ONE FC has plans to end 2013 with a bang, and fans of Asian MMA will be treated to an action packed end of the year.

Although the full fight card for ONE FC: Total Domination is not yet complete, the main event is already official. The ONE FC bantamweight title unification bout between champion Soo Chul Kim and interim champion Bibiano Fernandes will be contested. Stay tuned for more event details in the coming weeks, and don’t forget to tune into ONE FC: Champions and Warriors on September 13^th in Jakarta, Indonesia.

ONE FC CEO Victor Cui Interview with Sherdog

If you haven’t yet had a chance to read ONE FC head honcho Victor Cui’s most recent interview with Sherdog, you’ll want to do so now. Sherdog is one of the premier MMA news sites in the entire world, and the feature on Victor Cui is an indication of just how big ONE FC and Asian MMA has become. In the very informative interview, Cui lays out the future of ONE FC and reveals some HUGE plans for the year 2014. 2013 has been a great year and things are moving fast, but it looks like in 2014 it will reach a whole new level. This is going to be an exciting ride to say the least.

When asked about the biggest obstacles facing ONE FC at the moment, Victor Cui had this to say:

“The biggest challenge we face now, even though our company is only 19 months old, is that because we have grown so fast, the size of our events keep growing; our last event in Manila was in a 20,000-seat stadium -- the biggest venue in most cities of Asia,” he added. “We can no longer have events in a 5,000-seat ballroom -- our fans are too big -- so the size of the venue is becoming restrictive and, quite often, the venues that have the capacity we need are away from the city center. It’s kind of a continuous, moving jigsaw puzzle in each country, and we’ve learned to be flexible. Asia is a great place for MMA because of its explosive growth and the many opportunities.”

ONE FC: Champions and Warriors Full Fight Card Released

ONE FC recently released their completely stacked final fight card for the upcoming ONE FC: Champions and Warriors. The show is set to go down on September 13th in Jakarta, and it will be highlighted by the top flyweight contender fight between Shinichi Kojima and Andrew Leone. Also featured on the card will be three members of the Evolve Fight Team Jake Butler, Bruno Pucci, and Almiro Barros. All three Evolve fighters will be faced with tough opponents, but with the support of the entire Evolve Family behind them we are confident they will emerge victorious.

Bellator 97 Preview Video

While most MMA promotions hold their events exclusively on the weekends, Bellator is now offering world class mixed martial arts events on the weekdays. That’s right, Bellator 97 is all set to go down this Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Singapore) and the card is completely stacked! What better way to add a little mid week excitement to your life than seeing some of the world’s top mixed martial artists go to war.

Headlining the card, is a man many consider to be the best wrestler in all of mixed martial arts, Ben Askren. Askren will be making his 4^th title defense against a very tough Andrey Koreshkov. Some of you may remember Ben Askren from the time he spent training with the Evolve Fight Team in Singapore. Let’s all tune in and show some Evolve Family support for Ben.

Also on this awesome midweek card is the always entertaining King Mo Lawal against Jacob Noe and current Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler against David Rickels. This is must see mixed martial arts.

No matter what obstacle lies ahead of you in the week to come, try to remember that life is a game of inches. Don’t worry about how far you have to go or how hard the task may be, but rather focus on taking that first small step in the right direction and then following it up each and every day with another small step. Inch by inch, step by step, you can achieve anything.

Start Your Day Right

Your first meal of the day will very often set the trend for the rest of the day. If you start with an unhealthy choice, your body will crave similar unhealthy foods throughout the day. The same goes for your will power. If you give in to bad choices early in the day, it just becomes that much easier to do so throughout the day. Without the proper fuel your energy levels will suffer and cravings will grow stronger. It is a feeling almost every one has experienced. You wake up in the morning with the intention to eat clean and healthy. Yet, you some how convince yourself it is okay to cheat a little on your first meal. Perhaps you are running late for work, and just want to grab something quick. The rest of the day you are going to eat clean. The next thing you know you are giving up on the day, and promising yourself that tomorrow will be the day you start eating healthy. This is a cycle that can very easily repeat itself day after day unless you take action to stop it in its tracks.

A great way to implement a lifestyle of healthy eating is by making your first meal of the day your healthiest. It sets the trend in your mind and body that makes following through with the rest of the day so much easier. A well balanced, nutrient rich first meal will give you longer lasting energy, ward off cravings, and keep you mentally sharp throughout the day. So what is a great first meal to start you on the path to healthy living? The choices are many and largely dependent on your individual preferences, but here are a few to get you started.

Oatmeal: A quick, simple, and great way to start any day. Get creative with your toppings and add some of your favorite fruits and nuts. Top it off with a light sprinkling of all natural honey.

Yogurt & Granola: Try pairing your favorite all natural granola with a dollop of plain low-fat yogurt and some fresh fruit. For an extra kick of protein try using a strained Greek yogurt, which can have up to double the amount of protein per serving than regular yogurt.

Green Shake: Let your imagination run wild here. The Green Shake has recently become a favorite among the Evolve MMA family. Everyone has their own unique twist on this high-powered smoothie, but the general idea is the same. Gather up all your favorite fruits and vegetables, stuff the them into a blender, and drink. Some recommended ingredients include kale, spinach, carrots, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, beetroot, ginger, celery, cucumber, pears, and anything else you desire. Use the kale and spinach as a base for the shake, and then add your favorite fruits and vegetables for flavor. This is one of the healthiest and most satisfying ways you can start your day, and you will absolutely notice its effects.

So take your pick from the above or create your own healthy start to the day, but make sure it is a good one. Also, make sure that your serving size is big enough to safely hold enough until your next meal. Don’t let yourself get too hungry as that is always when the bad decisions are made. Start your day healthy, and keep yourself fueled with healthy snacks throughout the day. Remember, the healthy lifestyle you’ve been chasing all starts with that first meal.
