Start Your Day Right



Your first meal of the day will very often set the trend for the rest of the day. If you start with an unhealthy choice, your body will crave similar unhealthy foods throughout the day. The same goes for your will power. If you give in to bad choices early in the day, it just becomes that much easier to do so throughout the day. Without the proper fuel your energy levels will suffer and cravings will grow stronger. It is a feeling almost every one has experienced. You wake up in the morning with the intention to eat clean and healthy. Yet, you some how convince yourself it is okay to cheat a little on your first meal. Perhaps you are running late for work, and just want to grab something quick. The rest of the day you are going to eat clean. The next thing you know you are giving up on the day, and promising yourself that tomorrow will be the day you start eating healthy. This is a cycle that can very easily repeat itself day after day unless you take action to stop it in its tracks.

A great way to implement a lifestyle of healthy eating is by making your first meal of the day your healthiest. It sets the trend in your mind and body that makes following through with the rest of the day so much easier. A well balanced, nutrient rich first meal will give you longer lasting energy, ward off cravings, and keep you mentally sharp throughout the day. So what is a great first meal to start you on the path to healthy living? The choices are many and largely dependent on your individual preferences, but here are a few to get you started.

Oatmeal: A quick, simple, and great way to start any day. Get creative with your toppings and add some of your favorite fruits and nuts. Top it off with a light sprinkling of all natural honey.

Yogurt & Granola: Try pairing your favorite all natural granola with a dollop of plain low-fat yogurt and some fresh fruit. For an extra kick of protein try using a strained Greek yogurt, which can have up to double the amount of protein per serving than regular yogurt.

Green Shake: Let your imagination run wild here. The Green Shake has recently become a favorite among the Evolve MMA family. Everyone has their own unique twist on this high-powered smoothie, but the general idea is the same. Gather up all your favorite fruits and vegetables, stuff the them into a blender, and drink. Use the kale and spinach as a base for the shake, and then add your favorite fruits and vegetables for flavor. Also, make sure that your serving size is big enough to safely hold enough until your next meal. Don’t let yourself get too hungry as that is always when the bad decisions are made. Start your day healthy, and keep yourself fueled with healthy snacks throughout the day. Remember, the healthy lifestyle you’ve been chasing all starts with that first meal.
