Watch the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup!

The 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup was recently held in Los Angeles, California on March 15^th and 16^th. The event is the biggest and most important team wrestling competition in the entire world featuring the very best wrestlers from all of the world’s wrestling powerhouses. The level of wrestling on display is second to none, and the stakes are national pride. It is truly the best of the best in the world of wrestling.

This year fans got to watch the Iranian wrestling team make World Cup history by winning their third straight title. The Iranian team blew threw the competition en route to a final victory against an extremely talented Russian team. The United States claimed the bronze medal after falling to the Iranians in a closely contested 5-3 loss.

Now, courtesy the USA Wrestling Federation, the entire World Cup is available for viewing online. You can check out every single individual match here. Technique of the Week: Wrestling Takedown for MMA

Check out the latest “Technique of the Week” from Evolve University’s world class MMA program. In this video, ONE FC fighter and NCAA Division 1 wrestler Jake Butler teaches one of his favorite takedowns for MMA. The takedown is a highly effective head outside single with an awesome transition into a slam finish. Takedowns are one of key skill sets that every mixed martial artist needs to have. By controlling the takedown game, you can effectively control where the fight takes place. The Best Wrestler in MMA?

By now you have all probably heard the exciting news. Bellator Welterweight World Champion, Ben Askren, has officially joined the Evolve Fight Team. Ben comes to Evolve as one of the top welterweights in the entire world. His record stands at a perfect 12-0. Known primarily for his dominant wrestling style, Ben will bring a very unique skill set to Evolve MMA. He will also benefit greatly from Evolve MMA’s world class Muay Thai and Boxing programs. We couldn’t be more excited to have Ben on board, and we look forward to seeing him in Singapore soon.

Although many of you are probably aware that Ben Askren is a world class wrestler, let’s take a quick moment to review some of Ben’s impressive wrestling credentials. While competing for the University of Missouri’s NCAA Division 1 wrestling program, Ben put together one of the most storied careers in the program’s history. He was a 4 time All-American and earned National Championship titles in 2006 and 2007. In both 2006 and 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding collegiate wrestler of the year. He is one of only 2 people to have ever been awarded the trophy twice, the other being the legendary Cael Sanderson. He is also one of the greatest finishers in the history of NCAA Division 1 Wrestling, standing third on the all time list with 91 pins.

After graduating from University in 2007, Ben moved on to the US Senior Freestyle circuit. He won a US National Freestyle Wrestling Championship and a place on the US Olympic Wrestling team. He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2009, he made the decision to retire from wrestling and focus on MMA.

In November, Ben came out of retirement from wrestling to take on active wrestler Quentin Wright. Wright was a 4 time All American, and he recently won his second NCAA Division 1 National title at the 2013 championships. Although competing nearly 20 pounds above his collegiate weight, Ben smashed his opponent by a score of 22-8.

In viewing his past credentials and recent dominance, there is a very strong case to be made that Ben Askren is in fact the best wrestler in MMA.

The Greatest Wrestler Alive?

It is not hard to make the argument that American freestyle wrestler, Jordan Burroughs, is the greatest wrestler alive. Since graduating from the University of Nebraska in 2009, Jordan has put together one of the most dominant runs in the history of international freestyle wrestling. Competing against the very best wrestlers in the world from every corner of the globe, Jordan has amassed a perfect 67-0 record. He won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and he just recently claimed his third consecutive World Championship. He outscored his opponents at the 2013 World Championships 34-3. He did this despite having only 11 days to prepare for the tournament. Burroughs suffered a severe ankle break just 4 weeks prior to the competition, and competed against his doctor's advice.

Is Jordan Burroughs the greatest wrestler alive? It is pretty hard to argue otherwise, and at just 25 years of age Jordan is still improving.

2013 ADCC Superfight: Andre Galvao vs. Braulio Estima

The ADCC Submission Wrestling Championship is the most prestigious grappling competition in the world. It features the very best of the best in the grappling world and it is the tournament at which legends are made. In addition to the highly competitive tournament, every year the ADCC invites a few of the world’s top grapplers to compete in a superfight. This year the superfight featured Andre Galvao and Braulio Estima, two of the world’s very best grapplers in their competitive primes.

Evolve University: Awesome Wrestling Finish

Evolve University (‪http://www.evolve-university.com) is the largest world championship online university for martial arts. In this video, US Olympian and Head Coach of the Evolve Fight Team, Heath Sims, teaches a high level wrestling technique. Beginning in the top position, Heath uses a leg ride and power half to force his opponent to their back. In wrestling, this is a finishing move and will result in a match ending pin. This position can also be used for top control in mixed martial arts.

Through this collaboration, Singapore's national athletes will be granted full access to the World Champions at Asia's top martial arts organization, Evolve MMA. Evolve Mixed Martial Arts to Train Future Champions in Various Sporting Events

National Athletes to Benefit Through Martial Arts and Training Regime of World Champions

Singapore, 9 October 2013 – Evolve Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) today announces its collaboration with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to provide a training platform to groom national athletes in all disciplines to become future champions in their respective fields.

These additional skills add an entirely new dimension to Singapore’s national athletes.

Striking Gold: An Inside Look at Asia’s Rising Powerhouse Gym

The small island nation of Singapore might not be well known within the MMA community, but if EvolveMMA owner Chatri Sityodtong has his way, the former British colony will soon become synonymous with liver kicks and championship belts.

Four years ago, Kru Saknarong lived on a dirt floor in the Team Sityodtong training camp in Pattaya, Thailand. He was earning $300 per month and sharing a living space with his wife and the fighters he trained. He had no net worth.

ONE FC Preview: Kojima vs. Leone

The bout pits Japanese MMA veteran Shinichi Kojima against young rising star Andrew Leone. ONE FC Fighter Feature: Jake Butler (video)

Check out this awesome new ONE FC fighter feature video of the Evolve Fight Team’s Jake Butler. After joining the Evolve Fight Team back in early 2012, Jake made his professional MMA debut at ONE FC: Return of Warriors in February of 2013. He won that fight via first round TKO and then followed it up with another win at ONE FC: Kings and Champions in April. On September 13^th in Jakarta, Indonesia, Jake will try to make it 3 in a row when he squares off against striker James Kouame. Also featured on the card are the Evolve Fight Team members Bruno Pucci and Almiro Barros. This promises to be another great night for the Evolve Family.

Behind the Scenes at UFC 162 (Dana White Vlog)

UFC 162 will forever be remembered in MMA history as the day that the greatest mixed martial artist in the world, Anderson Silva, fell. There has never been a bigger upset or a more shocking conclusion to a UFC event. Although the event is largely overshadowed by Silva’s defeat, UFC 162 also featured a host of incredible undercard fights from Frankie Edgar’s win over Charles Oliviera to Cub Swanson 3^rd round TKO of Dennis Siver. Needless to say, this is an event that is worth revisiting again. There is much to be learned.

In the lead up to the incredibly stacked UFC on FOX SPORTS 1, UFC boss Dana White has released another one of his always entertaining video blogs. In this one he takes us behind the scenes of UFC 162 giving us a rare glimpse of the fighters in victory and defeat.

Bellator 97 Preview Video

While most MMA promotions hold their events exclusively on the weekends, Bellator is now offering world class mixed martial arts events on the weekdays. That’s right, Bellator 97 is all set to go down this Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Singapore) and the card is completely stacked! What better way to add a little mid week excitement to your life than seeing some of the world’s top mixed martial artists go to war.

Headlining the card, is a man many consider to be the best wrestler in all of mixed martial arts, Ben Askren. Askren will be making his 4^th title defense against a very tough Andrey Koreshkov. Some of you may remember Ben Askren from the time he spent training with the Evolve Fight Team in Singapore. Let’s all tune in and show some Evolve Family support for Ben.

Also on this awesome midweek card is the always entertaining King Mo Lawal against Jacob Noe and current Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler against David Rickels. This is must see mixed martial arts.

UFC 163 Extended Preview (video)

Next weekend on August 3^rd the UFC is all set to return to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, the home to some of the most passionate mixed martial arts fans in the entire world. Featured on the card are two of Brazil’s most beloved fighters, Jose Aldo and Lyoto Machida. Aldo will be defending his featherweight title against Chan Sung Jung aka “The Korean Zombie”. Both of these guys are known for their incredibly exciting fighting styles, and we can expect this fight to be no different. Whether standing or on the ground, there are definitely going to be some awesome exchanges.

In an equally exciting matchup, Lyoto Machida will take on Phil Davis in a bout that will have huge implications for the determination of the next number one contender of the UFC light heavyweight division. There are no secrets as to what each of these fighters game plans will be. Machida will look to use his elusive and creative striking attacks to pick Davis apart standing. Davis will be looking to put his elite wrestling pedigree to use early and often as he tries to keep this fight on the ground. It will be interesting to see which fighter is able to keep the fight in their domain.

In anticipation of UFC 163 next weekend, sit back and enjoy this extended preview of the main event. Aldo is the clear favorite going in to this bout, but The Korean Zombie has no intention of letting this opportunity to become the first Asian based UFC champion pass him by.

Save Olympic Wrestling

Earlier this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) sent shockwaves through the worldwide wrestling community by announcing that wrestling would be dropped from the Olympic Games. Despite being one of the world’s oldest sports and steeped in rich Olympic tradition, the sport of wrestling is set to vanish from the Olympics in the year 2020. As expected, the international wrestling community was outraged, and a worldwide coalition to save Olympic wrestling quickly sprung into action.

As the IOC is now finding out, the wrestling community is strong and worldwide. While the fight to have wrestling reinstated is not yet won, the future is starting to look secure. In order to drum up further support for the fight to keep wrestling in the Olympic Games, the USA Wrestling Federation has put together a fascinating documentary about the sport of wrestling. You can check out the complete trailer below.

If you have ever trained in martial arts, of any kind, then you will certainly be able to understand the wrestling community's stance. Wrestling is a sport that can transcend political and international boundaries. It is sport that has the power to change lives for the better. Special Gracie Breakdown

In yet another case of senseless violence, a mother in New Jersey was recently the victim of a brutal attack after a burglar broke into her home. The victim was left helpless at the hands of the much bigger and stronger male assailant, who repeatedly attacked the woman. Making the situation even worse, the victim’s young daughter was also present at the time of the attacks and had no choice but to watch her mother mercilessly abused. As horrible as this is, it is a topic that needs to be addressed. This type of thing happens all too often in all corners of the globe for us to ignore it. If you think this can’t happen to you, you are very wrong. It can happen to anyone!

It is for this very reason that we have developed a self defense program at Evolve MMA, and we encourage all of our students to participate. Don’t let yourself be caught unprepared. Violence is scary, but the fear can be mitigated through the practice of martial arts.

In this very sobering video, Rener and Ryron Gracie discuss the recent attack in New Jersey and provide some tips on how this situation may have been avoided. Check it out below.
