Got Footwork?

“He who hits and runs away lives to fight another day.” – Willie Pep

Willie Pep is one of the most prolific fighters in the history of boxing.  During his remarkable 26-year career, Pep fought a total of 241 times, retiring with a record of 229 wins and just 11 losses.  In 1990 he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and he is widely considered to be the greatest featherweight boxer of all-time.  If you have never seen Willie Pep fight than you are missing out on the work of a true artist inside the ring.

So how was Willie Pep able to fight for so long?  The answer lies in his remarkable footwork.  Pep was one of the most elusive fighter’s in the history of boxing with a unique ability to hit and not be hit back.   In fact, legend has it that Willie Pep actually won the third round of his fight against Jackie Graves without throwing a single punch.
