ONE FC Pride of a Nation Preview: Arlovski vs. Sylvia
In a little over a week on August 31st, One Fighting Championship will put on the biggest mixed martial arts event in the
history of the Philippines. Over 16,000
die hard MMA fans will rock the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila,
bringing back memories of the legendary “Thrilla in Manila” held at the very
same arena over 30 years ago. The level
of excitement surrounding this monumental event is through the roof. There has not been a more eagerly anticipated
MMA event in Asia’s recent history, and judging by the incredibly stacked and
diverse fight card ONE FC has put together, this event will deliver on all
fronts. Get ready for a seriously action
packed night of mixed martial arts.
In one of the evening’s two heavyweight bouts, two former
UFC Champions, Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia, will square off for the fourth
time. In their first meeting back at UFC
51 in 2005, Arlovski defeated Sylvia to become the UFC Heavyweight
Champion. A year later, Sylvia avenged
his loss to Arlovski and claimed the UFC Heavyweight belt for himself. In the rubber match, Sylvia edged out Arlovski
in a hard fought 5 round decision. On
August 31st, Arlovski will finally get his chance to even up the
score. Both of these guys have made it
