UFC Returns to Asia

After a nearly 10 year hiatus, the UFC will finally make its long overdue return to Asia on February 25th. UFC 144 will be held at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan marking the first Zuffa era UFC foray into Asia. The event will feature an electrifying card highlighted by the Lightweight Championship bout between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson. This is great news for Asian MMA, and can be viewed as due recognition of the exploding popularity of mixed martial arts in Asia. The head of UFC Asia Mark Fischer has made it very clear that this event is part of a larger plan for the UFC's expansion into the Asian region, stating, "We hope to make UFC Japan an annual fixture on our calendar and we also have plans to follow-up with a series of high quality events across Asia." MMA is now the fastest growing sport in the world, and everyday it is looking more and more likely that Asia is set to become the biggest market for MMA in the world.
