Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao!
Floyd Mayweather, one of the best boxers on the planet, recently announced that he will be returning to the ring after a 19 month absence. Fight fans will be disappointed to hear that it will not be to compete against pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, but it will be to face reigning WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz.
Although a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather looks no closer to happening, it is still interesting to look at the contrasting styles of these two greats. The Filipino is all action and is always willing to take a punch in order to give a punch. Mayweather, by contrast, is a defensive genius who is almost impossible to hit. Whereas Pacquiao has been knocked down and out in the past, Mayweather has never once been knocked down and has comfortably won every contest he has ever entered as a professional.
Pacquiao has made a career out of being able to hit people whereas Mayweather has made a career out of his ability to avoid being hit. A lot of people might think boxing is all about punching, but it is equally about foot speed and head movement.
Boxing classes tend to bring out the Pacquiao in people and make them want to hit the pad or the bag as hard as they possibly can. It is also important to remember to try to be a bit more like Mayweather. Having great footwork or head movement might not make a satisfying sound like landing a heavy punch does, but these skills might save you from ending up on the receiving end of one of those punches!
The head boxing instructor at Evolve MMA is WBA World Champion Yodsanan Sityodtong. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest World Champions ever produced out of Asia. In 62 professional fights, he has fought some of the best fighters in the world, and yet none of his last 50 opponents were able to knock him out. Yodsanan is renowned for his incredible punching power (47 of his 58 wins came by knock out!) and is called Little Mike Tyson. However, as his record shows, he is just as good at avoiding punches as he is at throwing them.
If you want to work on your defence, as well as your offence, just ask Yodsanan or any one of our experienced boxing instructors to give you some tips.
