MMA Classic: Carlson Gracie vs. Waldemar Santana (1955)
Check out this awesome footage of the legendary fight
between Carlson Gracie and Waldemar Santana. This fight went down in 1955 before the word “mixed martial
arts” even existed. Back then it
was simply referred to as vale tudo, which translates roughly to “anything
goes”. Gracie and Santana are both
considered pioneers of modern day MMA, and this fight is one of the first times
a member of the Gracie family fought without wearing the traditional gi. It is truly amazing to see just how far
the sport has come in such a short time.
