Old School Renzo Gracie
Here is an old school video clip of the legendary Renzo Gracie. In this clip, Renzo is around 18-19 years old and is fighting a karate fighter in a no-rules fight in Brazil. In those days, there were virtually no rules in these type of competitions. Vale tudo (or "anything goes" in Portugese) is the predecessor to the sport of MMA. In that era, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu dominated virtually all no-rules fighting. Of course, vale tudo and the sport of MMA has evolved with time. Today, the modern fighter must be a complete fighter in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, and Boxing to thrive in the sport of MMA. It is simply impossible to know only one martial art and expect to survive in an MMA fight.
