Tribute to Helio Gracie
Helio Gracie is one of the founding fathers of what is now
known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Along with his brother, Carlos Gracie, Helio dedicated his entire life
to developing and teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During his younger years he was
considered to be one of the greatest vale tudo fighters in the world, and accepted
challenges from all comers no matter their size or experience. In his later years, he and his children
were the major driving force behind the development of mixed martial arts. Without the influence and passion of
the great Grandmaster Helio Gracie the sport of mixed martial arts would not be
where it is today.
On January 29, 2009 Helio Gracie passed away at the age of
95 years old. At the time of his
death he was still teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes on a regular basis. In honor of the great legacy of Helio
