"Not so well known in the west, Lamnamoon Sor Sumalee is a fighter with a record that deserves to have him ranked up there alongside the likes of Sangtiennoi, Jongsanan, Sakmongkhon and all the other big name Thais that have fought in the west.  Born in Amnat Jareon province in the Northeast of Thailand in 1972 and named Khukrit Kamolroek, Lamnamoon didn’t start learning Muay Thai until the relativaly late age for Thai’s of 14. He was inspired by a love of the sport and wanting to follow in his older brothers footsteps. He started practicing at Sitpongthep camp nearby and fought under the name of Pongtheplek Sitpongthep.  After about 25 fights for this camp his trainer took him to train at the famous Sor Sumalee camp in nearby Ubon Ratchathani province. He was given the fight name Lamnamoon Sor Sumalee and started to make a big name for himself on the local shows. After a short while he was taken to fight in Bangkok and was signed up under the promotional wing of Thailands number one promoter Songchai Ratanasuban.  Lamnamoon shone under Songchais promotion and had a distinct advantage over a lot of opponents with his very tall, lean frame. His trainers capitalized on this and trained him to be exceptional in the clinch and with his knees. Not long after fighting in Bangkok he was given the knickname ‘Khun Kao Wetaan’ or ‘Telephone pole knees’.  Lamnamoon got his first chance at a stadium title on the 30th of April 1993, which he won in style beating Former fighter of the year Jaroensap Kiatbanchong.  He gave this title up undefeated after moving up in weight and three years later got the chance to win another title. This time beating Methi Jedapitak on points to win the Lumpini Featherweight title.  Lamnamoon made just one defence of this title beating Chatchai Paiseethong on points before relinquishing the title, due to not being able to make the weight anymore. One year later in December 1997 he got a shot at his third title and beat ‘Batman’ Samkor Kiatmonthep on points to win the Lumpini Junior Lightweight title. He lost this title later to Khunsuk Sitboramee (Petsuphapaan). The title became vacant and Lamnamoon won it for a second time beating Rambojiew Dongolf service on points. Lamnamoon lost this title on points to Namsaknoi Yutkaankamthon.  Lamnamoon has been fighting at the highest level in Bangkok for over ten years now and has pitted his skills against some of the very best. Including Five fights against Samkor four of those wins! Five fights against Chatchai Paiseethong three of those wins, fights against Toto Por Pongsawang, Thongchai Tor Silachai, Jeroenwit Kiatbanchong, Kaensak Sor Ploenchit, Sangmorakot Sor Ploenchit, Langsuan Panyuthapoom, Namkabuan Nongkeepahuyuth, Hansuk Prasathinpanomrung, Wangjannoi Sor Palangchai, Karuhat Sor Suphawan,Kaoponglek Luksuritham, Attachai Por Samranchai,Boonlai Sor Thanikun,Khunpinit Kiatawan,Krekchai Kaewsamrit and many many more!  Lamnamoon has always been an exciting fighter to watch with his long knees and seeing if his opponent can get pass them to land any shots of there own. He Has his own weakness in his punch resistance not always being the best which has made for some spectacular fights. But he has always been an honest fighter and was upset when someone suggested he may have lost a little too easily in one fight. His next fight he decided to show that he wouldn’t accept anything other than victory, and bet his whole purse of 100,000 baht ($2500 US) on himself, he won the fight beating Chokdee Por Pramuk on points.  Lamnamoon also got the chance to fight abroad once Beating Sato Takaya in Nagoya Japan and with his career in Bangkok winding down now, it looks like he will only fight abroad in the future.  With a 7 year old Daughter and a 3 year old Son to look after, Lamnamoon has been careful with his money unlike some of the fighters here and has invested in a plot of land and built several rooms he rents out to the local university students in Ubon.  Asked if he would let his son fight, Lamnamoon said he wouldn’t stand in his way, but it would have to come from the heart as having had many battles over the years, he knows himself it’s not something he would ever want to force on him."

Here is a clip of one of Lamnammoon's wars (he's in the white shorts).
